Missing GSLRF Opening Weekend

Sunday, April 27, 2008, 02:00 AM CST [General]

Glad I'm not on cast now. My Son-in Law and Step-daughter have been named Outstanding Young Alumni (or something like that) by Eureka College this year. Award Dinner is on May 17th, so no Ren Faire that weekend.

They are being honored for their work establishing and running the MacKhayley Foundation.  The purpose of the MacKhayley Foundation is to provide medical equipment, specifically for the care of newborns, to the OSF Saint James-John W Albrecht Medical Center in Pontiac and The Children's Hospital of Illinois in Peoria. So far the foundation has raised over $10,000.

Someday I might tell you about my grand-daughters Mackenzie and Hayley, but all I'll say now is that this isn't a dinner I can miss.

    Change of Plans

Tuesday, March 11, 2008, 05:24 PM CST [General]

I've had to resign from the cast of GSLRF. Too far and too often. Each trip was four hours on the road and over $20 in gas. I'll just have to join the friends of faire and do my Crafty celt with a camera bit.

    Senior Citizen?

Saturday, January 26, 2008, 01:25 AM CST [General]

My father had one of those light bulb moments today.

He took me to lunch at one of his favorite places. Since I had never been there before, I asked what was good. As he named off several choices, he noticed that I was looking at the Senior Citizen's Menu.

"You aren't 55, are you?" he asked.

As I told him that I was over 55, I realized that for the first time it had dawned on my father that he had a senior citizen for a son and that he might be getting old - like being 86 wasn't a big enough hint.

I thought about rubbing it in a little, but I didn't. I let him deal with it in his own way.

After lunch we got back in his truck and he drove us back home.

You see, for all the milestones we pass in this life, you are really only as old as you feel, and I have a father who has no idea how old he is.

    That Time of the Year

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Took this before the snow really started to come down. More snow and Christmas pictures are posted here: http://family.webshots.com/album/561785159CiwAMb?vhost=family&start=0
